The personal development area is concerned with various aspects of life:

  • mental and physical health
  • psychological well-being
  • personal improvement
  • confidence, self-esteem, self-assertion, personal control/success
  • development of social skills
  • empathy, tolerance, cooperation, teamwork, qualities of leadership
  • decision-making, negotiating skills

In imparting these skills, in addition to a variety of workshop formats, the Sauti Kuu Foundation places particular emphasis on the positive impact of sport. Sport is used to eliminate cultural and social barriers. Sport is also a strong medium that can engage and effectively mobilise a large number of young people. As an instrument for a positive change in social behaviour, sport offers a unique opportunity for boys and girls to gain important everyday skills. It has a great effect on their overall development at the same time. Young people learn to be team players, disciplined and dedicated. Through sport activities, they cultivate their ability to make decisions, organise themselves and – particularly importantly for girls – build self-confidence and self-esteem.
